Urban Cliffhanger

is this your first obstacle race?

    What to expect

City Challenge Obstacle Race is an exciting and physical event that combines elements of a traditional obstacle course race with the urban environment. Designed to test participants' strength, endurance, and mental fortitude, all blended in a fun and exciting city setting.

    • Wall Climbs: Participants must scale over walls of varying heights.
    • Cargo Nets: Climbing up and over large cargo nets, participants must demonstrate their upper body strength and agility.
    • Monkey bars and Rigs: Participants must carefully navigate monkey bars, wheels and other attachments simulating the need for stability while traversing urban structures.
    • Carjacked, Stacy Williams Carry, and others: Are fun/photo capturing moments where athletes get to jump on cars, carry a friend, and flip some tires!
    • Rope Climb: Use your upper body and/or legs to climb the 14 ft rope with or without knots. Using ropes challenges participants' upper body strength and coordination.
    • Heavy Carries: Carrying sandbags and cinder blocks represent the need to transport items through the urban landscape.

The race is not just about completing the obstacles but mostly about having fun with friends. The City Challenge Obstacle Race aims to provide a unique and thrilling experience for participants, combining the physical challenges of an obstacle course race with the urban landscape, creating a dynamic and exhilarating event.

    How to get ready

Training for a City Challenge Obstacle Race requires a combination of strength, endurance, agility, and enthusiasm. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to train for this type of race:

    1. Assess Your Fitness Level: Begin by evaluating your current fitness level to identify your strengths and weaknesses. This assessment will help you tailor your training program to focus on areas that need improvement.
    2. Cardiovascular Endurance: Incorporate activities such as running, cycling, swimming, or rowing into your training routine.
    3. Strength Training: Focus on compound exercises that target multiple muscle groups, such as squats, lunges, deadlifts, push-ups, pull-ups, and planks. Include both bodyweight exercises and weighted resistance training to build strength.
    4. Core Stability: Incorporate exercises like planks, Russian twists, bicycle crunches, and leg raises to strengthen your core muscles.
    5. Agility and Coordination: Include agility drills, ladder drills, cone exercises, and plyometric exercises like box jumps and lateral jumps in your training routine to improve your agility and coordination.
    6. Obstacle-Specific Training: For example, practice climbing walls, rope climbs, cargo net climbs, and crawling through tunnels. Find local parks, gyms, or obstacle course facilities where you can practice these specific challenges.
    7. Mental Resilience: Practice mental resilience by pushing yourself during training, visualizing success, and adopting a positive mindset. Set small goals, overcome obstacles, and celebrate achievements along the way.
    8. Rest and Recovery: Allow sufficient time for rest and recovery between training sessions. Adequate rest helps prevent injuries and ensures your body can adapt and grow stronger.

*Gradually increase the intensity and volume of your training over time to avoid overexertion and minimize the risk of injury. With consistent training and a fun group to train with you'll be well-prepared for the challenges on the course and in life!
